Sugar Cookie Recipe

Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean my love for sugar cookie baking has stopped. Baked up a batch of heart shape cookies yesterday.  I love soft baked cookies and this recipe is my go-to for a soft sugar cookie. I found this recipe in my Good Housekeeping Christmas Cookie Swap book

Sugar Cookies:
2 cups butter (4 sticks)
 3 cups sugar
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla and almond extract 
6 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon  baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
(This recipe makes 152 cookies.)
1/2 stick butter, room temperature
4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2-3 Tb milk
food coloring

Cream butter and sugar till fluffy. Add eggs, almond and vanilla extract. Sift flour salt and baking powder. Mix in well and refrigerate dough for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough on a slightly floured surface. I rolled my dough on parchment paper. Sandwiching the dough between two sheets.This can help you avoid adding to much flour when rolling which can cause the dough to be dry. Cut and bake cookies for 12-15 minutes.
